The project is aimed at the protection of the chief sight of Paris against terrorist threats. The 2.5 m tall glass wall will replace the metal fences round the famous tower and will also encircle majority of gardens around it.
According to French media, the cost of the protective system is estimated as much as €20m. They report Paris Deputy Mayor Jean-Francois Martins as saying that the terror threat remains high in Paris and the most vulnerable sites, led by the Eiffel Tower, must be the object of special security measures. He also added that all works on security enhancement and protection of the Eiffel tower are discussed with city architects.
