Russian Chemists create most powerful nano-antidote against chemical weapons

“Simplicity of our approach is crucial: our products can be obtained just by mixing aqueous solutions of highly purified enzyme and safe biocompatible polymer. It will self-assemble due to electrostatic interactions between protein and polymer,” Alexander Kabanov from Moscow state University was quoted by the University’s press office.

The most toxic chemical weapons that can kill a person within minutes at minimal concentrations belong to the class of so-called organophosphate chemicals. These substances were first synthesized in Nazi Germany in late 1930s, however, they became widespread in the defense industry only in the middle of the last century, when the most dangerous types of these substances, British nerve gas VX and its Soviet equivalent VR, were created.
