Foreign investors getting interested in Greek real estate

A real estate website Spitogatos has recorded a rise in requests from foreign buyers by 125% in January-February 2017, compared to the same period last year. This significant jump is due to increased interest on the part of investors from China, Turkey and the UAE, which are not traditional buyers of Greek property.

The most considerable growth of demand was recorded for real estate in Thessaloniki (281%) and in the southern suburb of Athens (251%), as well as in the region of Macedonia and the province of Thrace (163%), in the centre of Athens (157%) and on the Crete (33%).

Demand from China increased by 203% for the first two months of 2017 due to the Golden Visa program offering a five-year residence permit for non-European buyers of property worth over 250 thousand euro.
