Russia, Bangladesh agree contract on handling NPP Rooppur’s radioactive waste

The parties agreed to prepare the agreement for signing in the shortest possible time. Deputy CEO of Rosatom, Nikolay Spasskiy, and Deputy Chairman of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological, and Nuclear Supervision (Rostechnadzor), Alexey Ferapontov, held consultations with the Bangladeshi party on the issues related to NPP Rooppur construction.

As a reference, the nuclear power plant will be built at Rooppur, 200 km north-west of Dhaka. The first power unit with VVER reactor with the capacity of 1200 MW is scheduled for 2022, the second reactor will be launched in 2023, each power unit is designed to operate over the course of 60 years.
