According to the creators, the device should help in the development of more environmentally friendly fuels.
Artificial sun, called Synlight, consists of 149 lamps connected in a structure resembling a honeycomb. German scientists have used xenon lamps, which are traditionally the source of artificial daylight in the premises.
Synlight is located at the Institute of Solar Research in Julich situated 30 km from Cologne. The device can generate temperatures of 3,500 degrees Celsius. This artificial is capable to synthesize the emission 10 thousand times greater that obtained by the same piece of land under natural daylight.
