In late 2014, Russia and Hungary signed documents on construction of the fifth and sixth blocks of the only Hungarian nuclear power plant, Paks, with reactors upon Russian VVER-1200 technology.
Russia grant a loan of 10 billion euro to Hungary for the project implementation. Paks NPP is located 100 km from Budapest and 5 km from the town of Paks. The station was built upon the Soviet project, four blocks with VVER-440 reactors operate there. Nuclear power plant produces more than 50% of the electricity generated in Hungary.
