Why EU gives up on banning construction of Nord Stream 2

According to the article published by The Wall Street Journal, instead, Brussels intends to reach an agreement with Moscow on allaying security concerns expressed by some member states.

In this case, dependence on Russian energy resources is at stake for the European Union, with the consideration that the project allows Russia to reduce its dependence on Ukrainian gas transit.

We should remind you that the gas pipeline is scheduled to be put in operation in late 2019. The throughput capacity of each of its two strings is 27,5 billion cubic meters, while a total cost of the project is estimated at 9,9 billion euro.
