USA reiterates support of Southern Gas Corridor project

The project was created upon the EU initiative for the natural gas supply from Caspian and Middle Eastern regions to Europe with the purpose of reducing Europe's dependency on gas from Russia. The Southern Gas Corridor envisions transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region via Georgia and Turkey to Europe.

“The United States continue to strongly support the Southern Gas Corridor due to its value for improving European energy security”, - Trend agency quotes Robert Cekuta.

At the same time, answering a question about the possibility of the project’s funding by any U.S. financial institution, the diplomat noted that such decisions were of commercial nature and should be taken by banks.
