Jewish Museum holds design competition for a monument to death camps’ heroes

The competition is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of an uprising in Sobibor Nazi death camp. This was the only extermination camp where prisoners managed to revolt. On October 14, 1943, under the leadership of Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky, more than 300 prisoners fled the camp.

The design competition will be held from March 20 to May 20, 2018. Authors of the three best projects will be paid cash prizes while their works will be exhibited in the museum from May 20 to June 1, 2018. The results will be announced on May 30, 2018.

The stone laying ceremony at a site of the future monument took place on the museum's premises in January 2018, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
