Japanese Mitsui to join Russian project for LNG plant construction

Russia’s cooperation with Japanese partners in the LNG production was being discussed at a meeting held between Deputy Energy Minister, Kirill Molodtsov, and the Japanese delegation which included representatives from Mitsui & Co Ltd.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue cooperation both at the interministerial and corporate levels. The parties also discussed the implementation of the Sakhalin-2 project and prospects for participation in the construction of the third train of the LNG plant.

Last June, within the framework of 2017 SPIEF forum in Russia, General Director of Mitsui & Co. Ltd. Tatsuo Yasunaga said that the company was interested in the Baltic LNG project. The project involves the construction of an LNG plant with a capacity of 10 million tons per year in the port of Ust-Luga, the Leningrad region of Russia, with a planned expansion of up to 15 million tons.
