Rosatom has launched construction of the 2nd Kursk nuclear power plant

“The construction of the most powerful power generating unit in Russia with the capacity of 1255 MW has been started,” Rosatom's report says. The works began on April 29, 2018.

The power units No. 1 and No. 2 of Kursk NPP 2 of the generation 3+ are pilot power units constructed according to the VVER-TOI project. This is a new project created by Russian designing engineers from ASE group of companies, an engineering division of Rosatom, on the basis of technical solutions for the VVER-1200 project.

As a reference, Kursk NPP 2 will replace power units at the currently operating Kursk nuclear power plant, which are planned to be decommissioned.
