If the owner of the apartment does not indicate his or her individual number on a website of online aggregators, the website will be fined. The amount of fine can be quite substantial, up to 600,000 euros.
The Spanish authorities see the need for such restrictions because of the tax avoidance on the part of a large number of landlords. Also, a growing influx of tourists into this country is now causing problems.
