Rosatom nuclear company sidesteps its US rival Westinghouse in China

In particular, the two parties signed a protocol on cooperation and a framework agreement on building power units at Xudabao nuclear power plant in China. According to the documents, Rosatom will complete construction of Tianwan NPP and build two similar units at Xudabao site in the northeast of China.

As Kommersant newspaper reported on Saturday, initially, it was assumed that Xudabao NPP would be built by the American company Westinghouse, which is a competitor of Rosatom on the international market.

“The agreement on Xudabao does not exclude the construction of additional blocks at the site by the state corporation. However, so far there has been no experience of coexistence within one NPP of power units of both Russian and American design”, the newspaper notes.
