This was decided by the country’s Council of Ministers on June 27. The Russian party has expressed its readiness to resume the project on market terms if Sofia is interested.
During the May visit to Bulgaria, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that at the talks with his Bulgarian colleague the issue of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy was discussed in detail.
“Rosatom will continue to supply nuclear fuel for the Bulgarian NPP Kozloduy, assist in the station modernization, in extending the service life period of its sixth power unit. In addition, the Russian party is ready to get back to the idea of implementing a project for Belene NPP construction”, the President said.
At the same time, the head of the Russian state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom Alexey Likhachev announced the company’s plans for participation in a tender for the Belene NPP construction.
