China to build railway in Serbia for $3.8 billion

Novi Sad and Subotica are located about 95 kilometers from each other. According to GCR, the construction of the Hungary-Serbia railway is a cross-border infrastructure project implemented within the framework of China's “The Belt and the Road” initiative. This project was agreed upon by Serbia, Hungary, and China in 2013, but the part of Hungary that is a member of the European Union is still under consideration by Brussels.

The 350-kilometer railway will allow passengers to get from Belgrade to Budapest in two hours, whereas at present it takes nine hours. According to the latest estimates, the project cost is estimated at 3.8 billion US dollars.
