Russia to build nuclear waste repository at Brazil’s NPP

Russia is interested in construction of a nuclear waste repository at the Brazilian Angra nuclear power plant, President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced.

Angra NPP, which is located at the Central Nuclear Almirante Alvaro Alberto in Rio de Janeiro, is Brazil's only nuclear power plant.

“There are promising projects in nuclear energy. At the beginning of this year, the Russian company Rosatom won a tender for the supply of uranium to a Brazilian nuclear power plant. The company... would like to get a contract for the construction of a repository for spent nuclear fuel on the site of Angra NPP in the state of Rio de Janeiro”, Vladimir Putin said at a press conference in Moscow following negotiations with President of Brazil, Michel Temer.
