In Yoshkar-Ola, work will soon begin on the first stage of reconstruction and technical re-equipment of urban wastewater treatment plants.

The city administration announced a tender to select a contractor for the reconstruction. Applications for participation are accepted until July 17, on the same day the competition committee will determine the winner.
The cost of work is estimated at 1 billion 362 million rubles. As noted in the tender documentation, the reconstruction will be carried out “using the best available technologies and conducting discharged wastewater to the standards established by applicable law”. The first phase of work is expected to be completed by July 2024.

The sewage treatment plant will be modernized as part of the Volga Recovery federal project, designed for 2018-2024. The main goal of the project is to reduce by three times the volume of polluted wastewater discharged into the river - from 3.17 cubic kilometers per year to 1.05 cubic kilometers.

It is known that in Mari El until 2024 it is planned to build and reconstruct 6 facilities (including sewage treatment plants in Yoshkar-Ola), which will reduce the discharge of polluted wastewater into the Volga floodplain.
