Mizuho, SMBC, J.P. Morgan grant €800m loan to Gazprom

“Today, an agreement between Gazprom, Japanese banks Mizuho Bank, Ltd. (Mizuho) and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), as well as the American Bank J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, N. A. (J. P. Morgan) was signed in the central office of OJSC Gazprom. According to the agreement, a loan in the amount of 800 million euro will be provided for the period of 4 years”, - the message states.

Earlier, the media reported that Gazprom carried on negotiations with the Japanese Mizuho Bank and SMBC on extending €800 million in loans. The parties planned to close the deal during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Japan on December 15-16.

At the same time, Gazprom discussed the cooperation with another Japanese bank, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), in particular, to finance the construction of the third phase of the liquefied natural gas project “Sakhalin 2”.
