The Orbital Sciences Corporation, from the USA, has decided to exercise an option for the purchase of 8 powerful Russian RD-181 liquid rocket engines.
As Construction.ru was told by the press office of the “Energomash” enterprise, which produces the devices, the Americans use the reliable and effective RD-181 rocket engines in the first-stage vehicles of their Antares space launch systems.
The option has been exercised within the contract concluded in 2014. RD-181 is a single-chambered liquid rocket engine of a closed cycle. It was developed and is produced by the “Energomash” enterprise.
The fuel it uses is kerosene, and the oxidizing material is liquid oxygen. The “Energomash” enterprise is a leading world developer and producer of powerful oxygen-kerosene rocket engines. It has been cooperating with US companies since the beginning of the 1990s.
