On the 5th of April, the Italian authorities are to extradite to Russia a former head of the Russian Border Services Agency, Dmitry Bezdelov, who is charged with the embezzlement of 1.17 bln roubles.

In October last year, the Appeal Court of Rome held to extradite Mr Bezdelov to Russia, a press office of the Prosecutor General told Construction.ru.

His transfer took longer than expected, since Mr Bezdelov’s lawyers filed a complaint to the Supreme Court of Italy. The court recently dismissed it and agreed to extradite the suspect to Russia.

Earlier, the investigators established that in summer 2009 Dmitry Bezdelov, the then-head of the Russian Border Services Agency, entered into a criminal conspiracy with a number of people with the purpose of embezzling budgetary funds allocated for the construction of the “Adler” rail crossing points.

The perpetrators ensured that the building company controlled by them won the tender for the public contract. As a result, over 1.17 bln roubles have been stolen from the budget.
