The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has named the economy as the main problem of the country.




“Don’t be concerned about the war. We have a major problem – the economy. If we overcome these hard times, which will end sooner or later, nobody will be able to frighten us. We will overcome it, we are strong people”. The Belarusian media cited Mr Lukashenko, who made this statement during his meeting with personnel from the Minsk automobile plant.

As a reference, in 2015 the GDP of Belarus, as compared with 2014, dropped by 3.9%. For the period of the first two months of this year, as compared with the same period in 2015, it fell by 4%. Nevertheless, the Belarusian authorities are relying on a 0.3% growth in GDP at the end of 2016.
