From January to June this year, import of all types of commodities to Russia from the countries outside the former Soviet Union has decreased by 7,7%, down to $70,657 bln, compared to the similar period of the last year.

This is what the Federal Customs Service of Russia, announced today, on Wednesday. However, the statement also includes the information indicating that since June 2016, the volume of import from these countries totaled $13,418 bln and, compared with May, has increased by 11,1%.

In general, in the opinion of experts, import contraction to Russia from non-CIS countries is due to the intensive implementation of the import substitution policy carried out by Russian government in response to the sanctions imposed by the Western countries.
