The scientists of the Cybernetics Institute at the Tomsk Polytechnic University have developed a robot, which is capable to patch up potholes on the roads, reports FlashSiberia.

However, the developers admit that the human presence will be an advantage, so that the robot wouldn’t whelm what isn’t required.

As the project’s author, Vsevolod Rachis, explains, the robot represents an autonomous mechanism, which detects a pothole with the help of an embedded camera, then reaches the object and scan it by means of an ultrasonic sensor. Following this procedure, the robot maps the depth of the pothole and then whelms it with special emulsion.

This devise has already attracted attention of governor of the Tomsk region, Sergey Zhvachkin.
