Hackers attack a number of U.S. high-profile hotels

Twenty hotels in several U.S. states have been attacked by hackers with malware collecting card data on the systems of HEI Hotels & Resorts, which is operating Marriott, Starwood, Sheraton and Westin, The USA Today reports on Monday.




According to a spokesman for HEI, Chris Daly, the hotels' payment processing systems exploited in restaurants, shops and other facilities, has been breached, what was revealed two month ago.

At present, the law enforcement agencies, as well as an outside expert, are involved in the investigation.

HEI released an official statement, reading: “We are pleased to report that the incident has now been contained and individuals can safely use payment cards at our properties,”

Besides of that, HEI Hotels & Resorts has installed a new payment processing system, which is not connected with other parts of its computer network, Reuters reports.
