The Russian delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation, Andrei Chibis, will take part in the work of the 3d Conference on housing and sustainable development HABITAT, which will take place on October, 17 – 20 in Kito, the capital of Equador.

The participation in the forum is an opportunity for Russia to discuss the experience of cities’ development in different economic and climatic conditions, and challenges Russia comes across, connected with the development of agglomeration. The delegation will present the global community the “Utilities and urban environment” priority project, exchange urban development experience with world-wide known experts, and learn the best practices of urban development. The Third Conference is to adopt “New Urban Agenda” which is to become a road map for overcoming the problems of population locations’ development for the coming 20 years, and to provide the necessary quality of housing.
«Now cities and towns occupy about 2% of the total area of the Earth, but they produce 70% of the world GDP, consume more than 70% of energy. Global urbanization is the unprecedented world challenge: according to forecasts, by the middle of the century four of five people will live in cities and towns.
The issue of creating comfortable conditions for living in a city is a key issue of HABITAT III. Learning of the world experience is the most important task for Russia, especially acute within the framework of the “Utilities and urban environment” national priority project implementation, said Andrei Chibis.
