Toyota Motor has invested over 21 billion roubles in the development of its plant in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, the president of Toyota Motor Europe, Dr. Johan van Zyl, said at an official presentation of RAV4 model, Vedomosti.ru reports on Wednesday.
According to Dr. Johan van Zyl, Russia is a country with enormous potential, that is why this country is a key one in the company’s strategy. “We are sure that Russian economy will overcome the crisis,” stressed Mr. Zyl.
Since the plant was put into operation in 2007, the enterprise has been releasing sedan Camry. Late in 2015, within the framework of preparation for RAV4 model launch, the plant’s production capacity was increased twofold up to 100,000 cars.
The facility started RAV4 production in August 2016. Investments into the new model launch totaled about 9,7 billion roubles. Russia-made Toyota RAV4 are planned to be supplied on automobile markets of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
