A Republican candidate, Donald Trump, becomes the 45th president of the USA, having defeated his Democrat rival, Hillary Clinton, despite the polls predicting victory of Mrs Clinton, BBC reports on Wednesday.
Donald Trump's victory in Wisconsin put him over the 270 out of 538 electoral college votes needed to win the White House.
Thus, the new Republican president will end ending eight years of Democratic rule in the White House. Trump's victory marked an end to the presidential aspirations of 69 year-old Hillary Clinton, who for the second time failed in her drive to be elected the first woman U.S. president.
Meanwhile, global markets plummeted, with the Dow set to open 800 points down.
