Residents of the Russian town of Ryazan offered to rename the 2nd Bezbozhnaya Street, translated into English as “godless street”, into the Street named after Donald Trump, a President-elect of the USA, who won election last week, unexpectedly for many experts.
A corresponding petition was published on the website of change.org.
“The name itself of the street, “godless,” contradicts Russian values and injures feelings of believers. While Donald Trump, who recently won presidential elections, is a friend of Russia and a defender of traditional values,” the petition reads.
The petition’s initiators are going to hand it over to Russian parliament for consideration. However, the local media reports that the street is unlikely to be renamed, because the city commission assumes an attitude against naming the city’s streets after any person.
