Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Arkady Dvorkovich, announced that metro construction is planned only in the Russian cities of Moscow and Saint Petersburg over the course of the next years.

As Arkady Dvorkovich said at a session of the Federation Council of Russia, extension of metropolitan railway was planned to be carried out only in Moscow. In addition, building a metro station in Saint Petersburg is also scheduled, these works will be financed from the federal budget within the project of the new stadium construction.

According to Mr. Dvorkovich, the reason is that at present the state doesn’t have funds to develop serious programs supporting metro construction in the regions.

That is why the main projects for metro construction are implemented only in Moscow and its surrounding area. This situation is expected to persist in the near two or three years.
