The authorities of Uzbekistan announced an international contest for creation of a monument to the first President of the country, Islam Karimov.
The decree announcing the contest, which was signed by the acting President of the country Shavkat Mirzieev, was published on Tuesday.
“An international creative contest for a monument to the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov shall be announced, in order to perpetuate his memory”, - the document says.
As it was reported earlier, the proposal to install a monument to Islam Karimov was submitted to the Commission for Monumental Art at Moscow city Duma. In addition, in early November, Presidium of the Moscow government adopted a resolution to name a park in Yakimanka district after the first President of Uzbekistan.
