All state-owned enterprises, including the oil and gas sector, should be privatized, with the exception of totally unprofitable, bearing significant social burden and security-related ones.

This is what Chairman of the Board of the Center for Strategic Development, Alexey Kudrin, told reporters within the framework of the “Civil Initiative” award ceremony. We should remind you that Mr. Kudrin served in the government of Russia as Minister of Finance from 18 May 2000 to 26 September 2011.

“I believe that we have a lot of state ownership. We have thousands of state-owned companies. With the exception of the security sector, scattered instances of social mission or cases of unprofitability, all other enterprises should be privatized, including those in the oil and gas industry. Anyway, we're going to move forward privatization,” - Alexey Kudrin said.

“The state does not need to keep the oil and gas sector. Gazprom could be postponed for some time. Subsequently, private companies should develop in the gas industry as well, the state also has to privatize its assets in this area”, he added.

“Of course,” said Kudrin, answering a question about whether he sees in the future privatization of Gazprom.
