There will be no UN Security Council’s resolution against settlements developed by Israeli authorities so far, because of the uncertainty over the U.S stance on this issue, Bloomberg reports on Thursday.
The doubts in U.S. position regarding the resolution are caused by the statements made by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump during his presidential campaign, who advocated imposing a veto on the document.
According to Bloomberg, the vote, that was planned for 3 p.m. New York time on Thursday, was called off, since the UN didn’t receive a clear message from the USA on how it would vote.
A draft resolution envisages declaring all Israeli settlements illegal under international law. The document would also demand that the Israeli authorities stopped construction in the West Bank and other “occupied territories”.
