American experts have assessed Russia’s trade policy and came to the conclusion that Moscow violated the principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the report published by the US Trade Representative’s Department states.
“In 2016, in some areas, Russia operated as a responsible member of WTO… However, in general, Russia’s actions are still at odds with the basic WTO principles regarding liberalization of trade, transparency, predictability, in favour of domestic policy of import substitution,” the document says.
Among the positive, which, according to the document authors, were not common, there is a decline in customs duties, elimination of certain protective measures, the country’s participation in drafting of a review over WTO trade policy.
