First time since the USSR’s break-up, large-scale planned restoration activities were launched in a number of towers and sections of the walls of the famous Sudak Fortress in the Crimea, RIA Novosti reports on Thursday.
“At present, the activities at three towers in the western part of the fortress are underway. Apart from that, at present, roofing at a cupola of Cathedral with arcade is being replaced,” said the representative of the reserve museum.
Construction trestle established near the fortress walls and towers are treated with fire-proof composition, in order to prevent potential inflammation of wooden structures.
These are the first planned restoration activities carried out since 1991.
