Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the U.S. mortgage companies, plan to pay a total of $10 billion dividends to the U.S. Treasury this March, Interfax news agency reports.

These companies, which suffered over the course of the financial crisis, now that the American housing market has recovered, will have to contribute much in the U.S. budget again. Starting from the year 2015, the authorities of the USA demand that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac transfer to the U.S. Treasury nearly all received profit as dividends.

In particular, Fannie Mae, which received $116,1 billion as a financial aid from the U.S. government, will transfer $5,5 billion to the U.S. Treasury.
