The authorities of the Crimean Republic intend to allocate 1 billion rubles ($17 million) to the demolition of squatter development this year, the head of the Republic, Sergey Aksyonov, said on Wednesday at a session of the regional parliament.

“There are over 9,000 items of illegal development in the Crimea, 1 billion rubles have been allocated to their demolition,” Aksyonov said.

According to him, the demolition is not a goal in itself, the buildings’ dismantling is necessary for improvement of the residential areas. Also, this measure is crucial to ensure compliance with the law in housing construction.

Apart from that, Sergey Aksyonov said that a special legal act is being developed to facilitate the procedure of squatter development demolition.
