On Monday, the State Council of Italy gave a permission for construction of Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), thus, rejecting a formal objections on the part of Southern Italian region of Apulia, where there have been numerous protests against this ambitious project in recent weeks.
The message released following a session of the State Council indicates that the body rejected appeals of the authorities of the city of Melendugno and the region of Apulia, who expressed serious doubts as to the compliance of TAP project with the existing environmental legislation.
According to the Council’s decision, conclusions of a special commission have been acknowledged as balanced. As a reference, the commission had previously reviewed all issues relating to environmental protection at TAR construction and approved the choice of location in the seaside area of Melendugno, where the gas pipeline should go to the Italian land.
