Gazprom, a Russian gas giant, offered to use its satellite systems during the laying of the Northern sea route, a Deputy Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors, Vitaly Markelov, announced at the International Arctic forum.
“We propose to construct the Northern sea route so that ships could also use our satellite data. This will create a unified system for managing safety in the Arctic region,” Vitaly Markelov said.
He specified that the space systems of Gazprom, which the company uses to ensure the connection of its facilities, allow to effectively monitor ice conditions in the region, as well as let the company’s vessels to pass through.
