The second pilot of Boeing 737-800 of American Airlines died on Wednesday while landing at the airport of Albuquerque located in New Mexico, TASS reports on Thursday, citing the U.S. Federal office of civil aviation.
The plane operated a flight from Dallas airport to Albuquerque in Texas. A few kilometers before landing, the captain of the aircraft declared a medical emergency on board and the plane landed on the runway, where medical staff arrived to render assistance.
A source in the airport administration said that American Airlines First Officer William “Mike” Grubbs had been pronounced dead.
The captain of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft was able to land the plane alone, but it required additional skills and effort on his part.
