The Dakota Access Pipeline, the project, which have caused so many protests and media frenzy, will launch interstate oil delivery today, on the 14th of May, Reuters reports with the reference to the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The tariff of a 1,172-mile pipeline from western North Dakota to Illinois has already been determined. The project is estimated at $3.8 billion.

The protests with the participation of thousands of activists against the pipeline construction had been staged due to the opposition on the part of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, which sued to block building the final link of the pipeline via a remote part of North Dakota.

Apart from defending the rights of native Americans, concerns over the pipeline’s impact on an overall situation with a climate change had been voiced.
