Tanker of Venezuelan PDVSA arrested over debt to Russians

Sovcomflot, a Russian state shipping company, has arrested through the court NS Columbus tanker, which was carrying oil of a Venezuelan state company PDVSA.




In October 2016, PDVSA sent a tanker in Caribbean countries, expecting to gain about $20 million from the sale of oil, which affected by the crisis Venezuela needs so much.

However, the owner of a tanker, Sovcomflot, attained the arrest of the ship with its cargo with intention to secure the repayment of PDVSA debt totaling $30 million.

According to Sovcomflot, the debt has accumulated, because PDVSA had not been paying for the use of the company’s vessels. Sovcomflot sued PDVSA in the court located on the island of Sint Maarten, in the northeastern part of the Caribbean Sea.
