A unique Christian basilica of the VI century was discovered on the territory of Artek children's campus, over the course of archaeological excavations, the campus’s director, Alexey Kasprzhak, announced.




“Over the course of archaeological excavations on the territory of Artek, a unique historical monument, the foundation of a Byzantine Basilica, was found. Scientists have dated the finding of the VI century AD and call it the most valuable Christian artifact discovered in the Crimea for the last time,” Kasprzak said, speaking at the III international Yalta economic forum within the framework of a session titled “Multinational Unity — Key to Social and Economic Development of State.”

He also said that archaeologists continued the study of another valuable site – the ancient Crimean Tatar cemetery that is partially located on the territory of Artek campus.
