Russian Ministry of Natural Resources sees opportunities to attract more than €1 billion of Asian investment in the forestry sector, the Minister Sergei Donskoi said, speaking at a meeting dedicated to a progress achieved in 2016 and objectives set for 2017.
“It is necessary to attract investors, including foreign ones. Only on the part of Asian investors, the allocations in forest plantations can be more than €1 billion. So we are going to protect our forests from extensive clearance and to extend the export potential of the industry,” Sergei Donskoi specified.
He noted that it was necessary to move to an intensive forest management, when the greatest economic effect was achieved not by increasing the area of deforestation, but due to the efficiency of forest management.
