The hotel designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) opened at the City of Dreams resort of the island of Macau.

In a 40-storey building with a mysterious name, Morpheus, there are 770 hotel rooms. The unusual skeletonized design of the hotel was inspired by traditional Chinese carvings on jade. The central atrium is located between the towers, while the so-called “outer voids”, cut from a single monolithic block, connect the separate structures.

The architects described their project as “the world's first free-form high-rise exoskeleton”. According to the developers of the project, the design is intriguing since it does not refer to traditional architectural typologies. Other Macau buildings used architectural styles from all over the world. But Morpheus emerged from its own unique environment and specific location conditions as a new architecture exclusive to this city.
