The Sakhalin regional authorities intend to build the largest ski resort in the Far East, “Mountain Air”.




As the acting regional minister for investment and external communications, Elena Sudakova, told journalists, the regional authorities are ready to invest 16 bln rubles in the ambitious project, including 5.6 bln of non-budget finance. The project will be implemented as a priority development. It was presented in detail at the International Investment Forum in Sochi.
Over the coming 10 years, four tourist areas connected by automobile and cable roads and ski routes with world-level infrastructure will be constructed there. A center for biathlons, a water sports complex, and a golf club will also be erected. The ski trails will be 74.5 km long with 17 elevators.
The project’s implementation will allow for the creation of 800 new jobs. The number of visitors is hoped to be 4m a year. The “Mountain Air” complex will be located on Rossiyskaya Mountain, near Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
