Chinese President, Xi Jinping, and Uzbek President, Islam Karimov, took part on Wednesday in an online ceremony of a 19 kilometers railway tunnel start-up. The tunnel goes through “Kamchik” mountain crossing in the East of Uzbekistan. It will become the largest object of this kind in Central Asia.
A unique tunnel is to become the major inescapable link in the new international transit railway corridor from China to Europe through Central Asia, Chinese President, Xi Jinping said at a ceremony.
At the end of May, China Railway Tunnel Group completed the construction of the tunnel, which is estimated at $455 m. The object has been built within the framework of the contract with the Uzbek Railways.
