Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu announced the list of new Smart Cities, Indian Express reports on the 20th of September.
The list includes 27 cities from 12 Indian states. Maharashtra tops the list with five cities — Aurangabad, Kalyan-Dombivli, Nagpur, Nashik and Thane.
According to the Minister, the total number of participating cities was 63, but it is these 27 cities that were qualified for this financial year.
The cities have passed 3 rounds of competition and were assessed on a basis if a number of factors.
“With this announcement, a total investment of Rs.1,44,742 cr has been proposed by 60 cities under smart city plans,” Venkaiah Naidu told reporters.
