Construction of 335-meter, the world’s highest Rogun hydroelectric dam starts at Vakhsh River in Tajikistan on Saturday. The country’s President, Emomali Rahmon, as well as the government and parliament members were watching the dam construction and the river’s corridor closure, the press office reports.




Rogun hydroelectric dam is the ninth one in a cascade of hydro power plants at Vakhsh River and is located 110 kilometers southeast to Dushanbe. The project capacity of the facility is 3600 MW, six radial hydroelectric generating sets with a capacity of 600 MW each will be installed at the facility.

After the dam is put into operation, Rogun water storage with a geometric capacity of 13,3 cubic meters will be created there. The construction of a hydro power plant, which cost is estimated at $2,8 billion, is scheduled to be implemented in several stages.
