On Monday, Nord Stream 2 AG, an operator owned by Gazprom gas giant, signed an agreement on funding the Nord Stream 2 project with Engie, Austria's OMV, Royal Dutch Shell, Uniper and Wintershall companies.

As Construction.RU was told by the press office of the Russian gas holding, its European partners will finance 50% of the project cost. The financial obligations of the European companies indicate the strategic importance of Nord Stream 2 project for the European gas market in the face of declining European production.

We should remind you that the completion of the construction of this powerful pipeline is scheduled for late 2019. It will run under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany.
