A large-scale explosion occurred in a coal mine in the north of the Islamic Republic of Iran today, Reuters reports on Wednesday.
The blast was recorded at 12:45 p.m. local time in the Zemestanyurt coal mine in the Iranian province of Golestan.
According to the available data, at least 80 miners turned out to be trapped in ruins following the incident. Some of the workers have probably died, Iranian media reported. There is information on at least two dead men.
Injured miners amounting to over a dozen of people were immediately taken to a hospital. The Iranian local authorities said that a rescue operation is being carried out.
